The Coalition for Constitution Implementation Kenya (CCI Kenya) and Partners in conjunction with the Global Campaign on Military Spending Africa (GCOMS Africa) condemns with Strongest Possible Terms the attack on Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) Base in Somalia that ended with death and injury of dozens of KDF Officers and takes this chance to send our heartfelt condolences to families and friends of the slain KDF Officers. May Jah to provide them with strength and energy during this trying moments.
CCI Kenya and GCOMS Africa also take this opportunity to ask the Kenyan Government to expedite the withdrawal of the KDF from Somalia and station them at Border Points to avert further loses of lives to the detriment of Kenyan families.
CCI Kenya and GCOMS Africa notes that continued presence of KDF in Somalia contributes to the increasing Kenya’s Military Expenditure to the detriment of Kenyan budgetary allocations to other critical sectors like Public Service Delivery, Climate Justice, Social Justice and Human Rights which have a net effect of long term stability and peace.
Finally CCI Kenya and GCOMS Africa wish to announce that the annual Global Day of Action on Military Spending (GDAMS) shall be held in April in Nairobi at place and time to be communicated later. CCI Kenya will dedicate a session during GDAMS 2016 to honor the slain KDF Officers. We therefore ask all Kenyans to stand in solidarity with the families and friends of the slain KDF officers by participating in this event.
