Closure of Major Roads due to WTO MC10 Illegal, Demos On

The Coalition for Constitution Implementation Kenya (CCI Kenya) on behalf of the Social Movements Working Group Against WTO condemns with strongest terms announcement by Government that Harambe Avenue, Parliament Road, Taifa Road and City Hall Way will be closed for one week during the WTO MC10 to be held in Nairobi.

CCI Kenya reminds the Government of Kenya that Article 37 of the Constitution of Kenya states that all Kenyans have a right to assemble, to picket, to demonstrate and to present petitions to those in authorities. Furthermore article 1 of the Constitution of Kenya states that all sovereign power belongs to the people of Kenya.

To this effect, CCI Kenya on behalf of the Social Movement Working Group Against WTO wish to announce that demos that were earlier planned Against WTO MC10 calling for an end to WTO are on and shall take place on 17 December from Freedom Corner via Uhuru Highway,, Parliament Road, Harambee Avenue, Moi Avenue, City Hall Way to KICC. There shall also be daily gatherings at Tom Mboya Monument every afternoon as from 15th December 2015.

CCI reminds the Kenyan Government especially the Traffic Department and the Police that they shall be held responsible for every loss of lives, destruction to Property or any injuries that shall arise for any attempt to stop lawful gathering of Protesters during the WTO MC10.
